Greece has hundreds of beaches but most people stick to the famous ones. If you want real peace then head to the lesser visited islands where secluded spots with turquoise water and white pebble shores wait for those who make the effort. These places feel like they belong only to you and the local fishermen.
One beautiful hidden beach is on the island of Ikaria. Its called Seychelles Beach and the name fits because of the white pebbles and bright blue water. The beach is tucked between high cliffs which protect it from wind. What makes it unique is the smooth round stones that feel nice under your feet and the incredibly clear sea where you can see fish swimming around.
Best time to visit is late May to early July or September. Summers can get hot but the water stays refreshing. To get there you need to fly or take a ferry to Ikaria then drive or rent a scooter and walk down a steep path for about twenty minutes. The nearest airport is on Ikaria itself though some people fly to Athens first and then take a ferry. Plan at least four hours for the visit because you wont want to leave quickly. Bring good walking shoes and plenty of water. There are no facilities at the beach.
Another quiet gem is on Milos island called Firiplaka. Not the main part but the smaller coves further along the coast. The water here has that famous Caribbean like colour but without the crowds. The white pebbles mixed with volcanic rocks create interesting patterns. Its special because the cliffs have different colours from white to red which makes the whole place look unique especially when the sun hits them.
You can reach it by car from the main port in about thirty minutes then a short walk. Nearest airport is on Milos. Allow a full morning or afternoon. A useful tip is to visit in the morning before the wind picks up. Also check the weather because the path can be slippery after rain.
On the island of Alonissos there is a beach called Megali Mourtias that stays almost empty. Its a long pebble beach with pine trees coming almost to the water. The turquoise colour is stunning and the water is usually very calm. This place feels wilder than many other Greek beaches because the island has fewer tourists overall.
Ferry from Skiathos or Volos is the way to reach Alonissos. There is a small airport on Skiathos which is the most common arrival point. You should spend at least half a day here. Good shoes are recommended again and dont forget snorkel gear if you have it the underwater views are excellent.
One more special spot is on Lefkada island. The beach of Egremni is famous among locals but still not overcrowded. High white cliffs drop straight into the sea and the water is unbelievably clear. The pebbles are almost white which makes the turquoise colour pop even more.
You can get there by car from Lefkada town then walk down many steps. The nearest airport is on Preveza mainland about one hour drive. Plan a few hours but be careful with the steps they are quite steep. Try to go during weekdays for even more peace.
These hidden beaches on the Greek islands give you that real feeling of discovery. They require a little more planning than the popular spots but the reward is worth it. Just remember to take your trash with you and respect the natural beauty so they stay secret for a long time.
